Albino: Night At The Chemist

Albino, ‘probably London’s greatest alcoholic garage rock band’, are back with their brand new album, ‘Night at the Chemist’. The band, consisting of Ben Tucker on guitar and vocals, Merv Salole on bass, Gareth Morris on guitar, and Don Gibson on percussion, and managed by Rocker Young, have easily performed over 250 gigs since starting up the band in 2005. Once a year, they even head out on an international tour, so those not from the UK will still have the chance to see this highly animated band of vintage-rock tendencies.

Albino can only be described as whisky obsessed Americana/garage rock musicians who can rock any venue using their incredible, often humorous original songs, including ‘Belinda’, the lead single off the new album, which displays the band’s energetic, light-hearted and passionate characteristics.

The strong beat alongside the catchy melody and lyrics, and the tremendous vocals from Ben Tucker, complemented by the extraordinary guitar solos, make their music incredibly satisfying and enjoyable for a wide range of listeners, making us dust off and tune our air guitars, ready to play along.

Blues Rock/Country band Cowboy Hat release debut album ‘A History of The American West and Other Stories’

Released 3rd June 2014

London based Americana enthusiast Cowboy Hat is set to release debut album in June.

Could it be the best Alt. Country debut album you’ll hear this year? Well, it has already been described as ‘Timeless’ and ‘Lyrically breath taking’. With some strong lyrics based around a historical theme, alongside the rich warm vocals from Nigel Barker, it is certainly an album worth listening to.

Check out track ‘Yeah I Love The South’ Here: http://youtu.be/hfrp-70bX5w

And ‘These Men Dreamed America’ Here: http://youtu.be/qJqhAbH6rZI

Singer songwriter Nigel Barker formed Cowboy Hat in 2012 in London which is surprising as the songs are heavily influenced by American music and history. With band members changing over time, he is the only official member of this innovative country rock band.

Nigel Barker’s musical life hasn’t always been an easy ride. When assistant engineering at Air Montserrat Recording Studios for the Elton John ‘Jump Up’ album, he encountered a terrible accident.

On one of his rare days off he crashed his car off a steep drop, the car was upside down and if it hadn’t been for an off duty cop, Nigel would have bled to death. Whilst he narrowly escaped death, he was left without the use of his left hand, which at the time came at a huge blow to his music career as he could not continue on with the record deal he had signed just months ago.

As at this stage Nigel could not continue his dream of music he used his creative energies to become film director, even though he saw some great success creating 3 feature films and winning awards for his work, it didn’t fill that hole that music had left in his life.

Nigel didn’t play his guitar for 30 years after the accident, however after 17 years he got a Harley Davison motorcycle and Nigel believes it was the heavy clutch that built the strength back into his left hand.

When he rediscovered music, he went out and bought the very same guitar he had all those years ago (A sunburst Gibson Les Paul). He spent 18 hours a day practicing until he learnt to play again.

Now back and stronger than ever Nigel is stepping into the spotlight with Cowboy Hat, the music is, raw, rich and full of power. The vocals and lyrical content really are the backbone of this fantastic release. There are big things to come for this innovative record and inspiring man.

Derek Ryan: Singing Sensation Releases Brand New Single ‘100 Numbers!’

Irish country star set to release his new single in the UK on 24th March taken from new album ‘Country Soul’, out now

Derek Ryan’s career has already been an unquestionable success. He signed to WarnerMusic at the age of 17 with his band D-Side and went on to make a multi-platinum selling record with ‘Real World’. He has also been nominated for several Meteor Awards in Ireland and has had global success with a number 1 single in Japan. Derek has also already managed to gain 3 top 10 hits in the UK, and is now looking to further establish himself  with the release of his new single ‘100 Numbers’ following the UK release of his new album Country Soul.

He commands a very loyal following of fans who have known and loved him since his D-Side days! The ‘Official Derek Ryan Fanclub’ Facebook is constantly buzzing with praise and love for Derek, along with a vibrant Twitter feed which keeps his fans hooked on his new gigs and music.

The track itself is a clear nod to his Irish country and folk music roots but also has an unmistakeable pop tone too with a very hooky melody and a catchy rhythm that is hard to shake!

Listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_48VtJ4sjg

‘100 Numbers’ was, like most of Ryan’s music, self-penned. The lyrics speak of being surrounded by people once he’d moved to London to continue his career, but still suffering from homesickness and missing those he is closest to. It was inspired by a tough time in his life when he was living in a bedsit in the city and desperately wanted to get back to his home in Ireland and continue making the music which he loves and has grown up with.

These feelings came despite the ‘100 Numbers’ in his phone, and there was no one who could help him shake his thoughts of home. The song is therefore a look into Derek’s own journey out of loneliness and back to his roots both musically and personally.

Musically ‘100 Numbers’ is quite layered with a number of different instruments being used throughout to give it a warmth characteristic of Derek’s music. In terms of comparison, the Westlife pop style is tempting but it has a more contemporary Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling pop folk feel to it whilst retaining a traditional flavour.

Steve Murray releases single ‘Angels & Butterflies’

Steve MurrayPart of the New Wave era with the band Fast Cars, Steve Murray is back with a new sound, a new album and a new single.

The acoustic rock track ‘Angels & Butterflies’ is an uplifting track about overcoming adversity, with a strong country vibe and a distinctive vocal performance by Murray himself. It’s a great example of the new approach he’s taken for his new album, a mellow, stripped back style of rock that suits his voice perfectly.

You can hear the single here: https://soundcloud.com/labelled-independent/steve-murray-kingbird-angels

The LP itself, ‘Audio Book’, was released to raise funds for  a charity called “Georgia’s Children of the World” set up by Steve and his daughter Georgia’s friends,  after  she unfortunately passed away following complications in her third heart operation. Available now but slated for a possible re-issue early in 2014, it’s a strong collection of songs full of positive messages, a value it shares with its writer.

‘Audio Book’ is the latest release in an enviable musical career. As well as working on projects alongside the likes of Mark Riley (6 Music), Paul Weller and The Jam and Joy Division, Steve Murray was the songwriter of ‘The Kids Just Wanna Dance’ – a Fast Cars single that is now amongst the top 20 most collectible from the period. Recently released on an album by Californian band Emily’s Army, the song was hand picked by Billy Joe Armstong of Green Day who also produced the album which features his son Joey on drums
