Welcome Back Crack of Dawn!

It really is with great pleasure that I get to announce the return of Canadian soul veterans, Crack of Dawn.

After a hiatus that lasted a few years too many, Alvin Jones, Greg Gooding, Carl Harvey, Michael Dunston and Trevor Daley have once again been doing what it is they do best, and the results are simply wonderful. The new album is a collection of songs both old and new that will delight fans of all ages. The music nods towards the classic sounds of Parliament and Earth Wind and Fire, but injects it with a fresh, contemporary edge that borrows from the more recent sounds of Bruno Mars and his funk obsessed entourage.

To accuse Crack of Dawn as being a collective of experienced musicians would be putting it mildly.  Guitarist and producer Carl Harvey has been lead-guitarist with Toots & the Maytals since their 1980 “Live at Hammersmith” album, sharing in their Grammy win in 2004. His work with Toots & the Maytals included world tour support slots with the likes of The Rolling Stones and Santana. Also aboard is Rupert Harvey, founder of Canada’s most successful reggae band, Messenjah, not to mention, sax player, Alvin Jones; trombonist, Trevor Daley who has played with reggae behemoths, Third World; the Latin tones of trumpeter Alexis Baro; keyboardist Bela Hayman; drummer Carl Otway, bassist Charles Sinclair who has played with Al Green, and, not leastly, the generously-buttered soulful voice of Michael Dunston, an aural experience like dipping your head in whipped cream. Like the greatest of funk and rhythm and blues bands, they work as a breathtakingly agile unit, more of a force of nature than a band.

Like pouring moonlight in one ear and sunshine into the other, this is true soul and funk music, performed by a band at the height of their powers playing their own instruments and bringing the glories of their past to the present day.”

Play air harmonica along to The NaveBlues

Norwegian 4 piece The NaveBlues are bringing a new and exciting edge to blues. Nave Pundik, lead singer and harmonica player has a harmonica tone like you’ve never heard, like hearing a harmonica put through Jimi Hendrix’s pedal board, its glorious.

Their self titled album really brings together the bands love of indie, soul and rock blending them with blues seamlessly. Track one ‘Sexy Kiss’ sounds like a mash up of early 00’s indie and traditional blues with searing harmonica over a guitar riff that could be taken straight from a Libertines album or early Kings of leon.

However this is most definitely blues.

‘In a quiet place’ strips things back to piano and male female vocals bouncing back off each other creating a warming bluesy wash, whilst ‘Early in the Morning’ and Led Zep cover ‘Thank you’ see the band show off their musical prowess. Blistering guitar solo’s, astounding harmonica breaks, everything that makes you say ‘niiiiiiice’ while you recline back in your chair and sip your whisky. Thats where The NaveBlues shine, they make give blues a new life, make it fresh!

Give the video for the lead track from their album ‘The NaveBlues’, ‘Possess You’ below.

Cherry White new EP – ‘Staring at the Sun’ with single – ‘Drifter’

Currently building a buzz with their live shows in and around London, Cherry White have now taken to the studio to record a brand new EP, ‘Staring at the Sun’. Inspired by life in London during this austerity era, surrounded by the greed of the wealthy, the tracks circle around an aspiration to reach higher and achieve their goals in the music industry and beyond.

The EP is led out of the gate by single ‘Drifter’, which will be released on June 1st, one week prior to the full EP:

Engineered at Bark Studios by the excellent Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, The Firm, My Bloody Valentine), the EP does a fantastic job of capturing the frenetic energy of a band who thrive on a live environment.

Capture

Cherry White’s live reputation was cemented at ‘Togfest’ in 2014, where their festival debut to a huge crowd was so well received they immediately sold out of albums. Having also taken to the stage at some of London’s top venues, including The Troubadour, Hope and Anchor (Islington) and Covent Garden Arts Theatre, their reputation in our fair capital is beginning to grow. Further afield, a BBC Wales live session a number of years ago proved there’s life outside the city for this eclectic group.

And with the single and EP on the way, Cherry White will be working harder than ever to make sure that reputation continues to grow into the music career they deserve.

Kinky Dove ready to release new self-titled EP

3 track release set to be unleashed on June 15th

scott_2

Born in in Australia but now living in London, Kinky Dove is the musical moniker of frontman Scott Wade and his evolving collective of musicians. Progenitors of gritty, driving rock, the group are readying themselves for a fresh assault on the music industry with a brand new three track EP.

Their particular brand of rock and roll, defined in many ways by the bluesy, post-rock growl of Wade on vocals, is currently in short supply both nationally and globally, and Kinky Dove are now looking to redress that balance.

For a taste of their punchy style, check out the video to EP track ‘Some Kind of Fool’, featuring an epic slap-happy montage of Hollywood moments.

The EP also features a remix/cover version of classic 1978 track ‘Another Girl Another Planet’ by The Only Ones – in this case titled simply ‘Another Girl’.

There is also a trance remix of ‘It’s Called Heartache’ on the EP. You can find the video for this at

The EP is online at

Produced by Chris Kimsey, previously of Olympic Studios, the EP marks Kinky Dove out as one of a few unique rock bands on the scene. Fans of Scott Wade and Kinky Dove before they began working together, the producer understood the style and heights at which the music was aiming, and helped mould that vision into the musical reality that Kinky Dove has become.

The CD was mixed by Wade. Studio legend Phill Brown loved the sound of the CD, commenting that the mixes were “open and alive.”

The resulting EP is a continuation of form from previous album ‘Kinky Dove vol. 1’, and the latest step in Kinky Dove’s  climb.
